My art ranges from heavily encrusted, gritty assemblage, to delicate, misted watercolor washes sprayed over sun baked paints. My process is often initiated with a sprinkling from my surroundings, where pine needles pivot within a flow of ink, or fragments of earth are captured in the drying process. These events lead into an image particular to the moment and rooted in place, yet universal and timeless. The development of each work is a unique journey, where discovery and intuition are the guideposts. Sometimes the path meanders, sometimes it's direct, and often I find myself circling back and taking time to rest and pause, and consider. The resulting images are explorations of magnetism, vibration, and undulation, as well as mass, and space, and depth. The skin of each work, like the skin of each place, is complex and mysterious. The act of painting is a gesture of communion, on a small and humble scale, with the immense spirit of the land.
